It plays here but not on air
The graphic works on the stage and goes wrong in the gallery. The editor and airZ Engine play the same file, so the difference is almost always in what the file is told to do there. Work down this page.
Nothing appears
| Check | Why | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Was the take fired? | A graphic loaded ready shows nothing until its take trigger fires. A trigger name the graphic does not have reveals nothing | The operator's trigger name must match the graphic's exactly: takeIn, not TakeIn |
| Does the graphic have live slots? | It waits until every slot has a picture | See Video does not appear |
| Is the right artboard Default? | Air plays the artboard marked Opens first | Set it in the artboard's inspector, and sync again |
| Are the right Animation States Default? | Air runs the default Animation States only | Right-click them in the Animations panel, Make default Animation States |
| Does the first state show anything? | Animation States start at Entry | Press play in the Animation States graph and watch the first frame |
It goes off air by itself, or will not stay on
The controller takes a graphic off air when a trigger with out in its name is pressed — takeOut, but also layout or timeout. Rename any trigger that has out in its name but does not take the graphic away. See Triggers and events.
The operator's values do not arrive
| Check | Fix |
|---|---|
| Was the property renamed after the graphic was synced? | The controller wires by name. Sync again, and point the rundown at the new name. See Naming properties |
| Is it an enum? | The value must be one of the enum's own values, spelt exactly: Live, not live. Or send its position as a number |
| Is it a font or artboard property? | Those cannot be set from air. Use an enum instead. See Sending values |
| Is it a row of a list with no items? | A list grows on air only from an item it already has. Give it one in the Data panel |
| Does preflight say a binding points at a property that no longer exists? | Bind the row again. See Preflight findings |
| Is the value being typed in the right field? | The field's label is the property's name. Check the operator is filling the one you bound |
It looks different
| What you see | Why | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| The wrong typeface | The document does not carry the font | See Fonts look wrong |
| Motion judders, or timing is off | The timeline's frame rate is not the channel's | Set each timeline to the channel's rate in Timeline settings |
| It plays only part of the animation | The work area trims what plays on air | Move the markers, or turn the work area off. See Work area |
| The edges are cut off | Some screens crop the picture's edges | Keep text inside the title-safe box: turn on safe areas |
| Thin lines flicker | Interlaced output | Strokes of at least two pixels |
| An overlay covers the camera, or sits behind it | Plays as is wrong | Update settings in Sync to controllers |
| A needle or dial spins wildly | Its binding reads radians while the data is in degrees: it came in with a file, or Value is in degrees was unticked | Tick Value is in degrees in the bind menu: see Converters |
It is the old version
The controller plays what it was last sent. Sync to controllers again, or export and copy the .riv again, and check the Sync window's line says Updated there.
Compare the two
To see exactly what the graphic does, take the same moment from both:
- In the editor, File › Export frame as PNG… at the frame in question.
- Ask the gallery for a still of the output at the same moment.
If the two pictures match, the graphic is fine and the difference is in the data or the timing it was given. If they do not, report it: see Reporting a problem.
