Install and system requirements
What airZ Editor needs, and how to install, update and remove it.
What you need
| Needed | |
|---|---|
| Windows | Windows 10 or Windows 11, 64-bit |
| Graphics | A graphics card that supports DirectX 11. Any card from the last ten years does. On a machine with two graphics chips, airZ Editor uses the more powerful one |
| For monitor out and live camera pictures | A Blackmagic DeckLink card, with its drivers installed. Without one, everything else works; the monitor out window says the card is missing |
| To send graphics to air | A network connection to your controllers |
| For the online template library | An internet connection. Without one, the templates that come with the editor are all there, and the library says it is offline |
| To install | An administrator account on the machine |
Installing
Run the setup file, such as airZ_Editor_1.0.0_8_Setup.exe, and follow its steps. It installs airZ Editor in Program Files\airZ Editor, adds it to the Start menu, and can add a desktop shortcut if you tick it. It also installs the Microsoft Visual C++ files the editor needs, and makes .airz documents open in airZ Editor when you double-click them. It adds a Windows Firewall rule, airZ Editor tracking input, so a camera tracking feed can reach the editor on your studio network.
At the end, leave Launch airZ Editor ticked to start it. The first time it opens, the Start screen asks what you want to do. Before you can export or send to air, add your licence: see Licensing. Your first scene takes it from there.
Installing on many machines
For station IT: the setup file installs without any questions when run with /VERYSILENT, and does not start the editor afterwards. It needs administrator rights, as the normal install does.
Updating
Run the setup file of the new version over the old one. If airZ Editor is open, the installer closes it first. The program files are replaced; your documents, settings, script shelf and everything you downloaded are kept. See Updating.
Removing it
Use Settings ▸ Apps ▸ Installed apps in Windows: choose airZ Editor, then Uninstall. The program is removed, with its firewall rule, and .airz documents stop opening in it. Your documents are wherever you saved them, and are not touched. Your settings, script shelf and downloaded templates stay in your Windows profile until you delete them too; see Where your files live.
